(Romeine 4:4-12)

ABRAHAM WAS DIE VADER VAN ALMAL WAT GLO:

“‘n Arbeider se loon word nie vir hom as ‘n guns gegee nie, maar as iets wat hom toekom.
“Maar die mense wat nie op wets-onderhouding staatmaak nie, maar wat GLO in Hom wat die goddelose vryspreek, hy kry die vryspraak deur sy GELOOF.
“So sê Dawid ook, dat die mens geseënd is wat deur God vrygespreek word buite wets-onderhouding om:
“‘Geseënd is die mense wie se oortredings nie gestraf word nie, en wie se sonde vergewe word.
“‘Geseënd is die mens vir wie die Here die sonde nie toereken nie.’
“Het hierdie uitspraak oor wie geseënd is, net betrekking op die besnedenes, of ook op die onbesnedes? Ons sê weer: ‘Deurdat Abraham GEGLO het, het God hom vrygespreek.’
“Wanneer het dit gebeur?Toe hy reeds besny was of toe hy nog onbesnede was? Dit was nie toe hy besnede was nie, maar toe hy nog onbesnede was.
“Hy het die besnydenis as ‘n teken ontvang. Dit is ‘n seël wat bewys dat God hom vrygespreek het deurdat hy GEGLO het, toe hy nog onbesnede was. Die doel daarmee was dat hy die vader sou wees van almal wat GLO, al is hulle nie besny nie. Hulle word dus ook deur God vrygespreek, deurdat hulle GLO.
“Ons voorvader Abraham sou ook die vader wees van die besnedenes wat nie net besny is nie. Hulle word dus ook deur God vrygespreek, deurdat hulle GLO.”

ABRAHAM WAS THE FATHER OF ALL WHO BELIEVE:

“To the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due.
“And to the one who does not work, but believes, in him who justifies the ungodly, his FAITH is counted as righteousness,
“just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts Righteousness apart from works:
“‘Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;
“‘Blessed is the man against whom the Lord Will not count his sin.’
“Is this blessing then only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? For we say that faith was counted to Abraham as righteousness.
“How then was it counted to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.
“He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by FAITH while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the father of all who BELIEVE, without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well,
“and to make him the father of the circumcised, who are not merely circumcised, but also walk in the footsteps of the FAITH that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.”

(Romans 3:27-31)

ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS COUNTED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS:

“Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of Law? By a Law of works? No, but by a Law of faith.
“For we hold that one is justified by faith, apart from works of the Law.
“Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,
“since God is One – who will Justify the circumcised by faith, and the uncircumcised through faith.
“Do we then overthrow the Law by this FAITH? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the Law.

(Romans 4:1-3)

“What then shall we say was gained by Abraham our forefather, according to the flesh?
“For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
“For what does the Scripture say? Abraham BELIEVED God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.”

ABRAHAM HET IN GOD GEGLO EN GOD HET HOM VRYGESPREEK:

“Het ons nou iets uit onsself om op te roem? Nee, dit is uitgesluit. Deur watter Wet? Dié van die werke? Nee, deur dié van die geloof.
“Ons betoog is tog dat ‘n mens vrygespreek word omdat hy glo, nie omdat hy die Wet onderhou nie.
“Of is God net God van die Jode, nie ook van die heiden-nasies nie? Ja, ook van die heiden-nasies,
“want daar is net Een God. Hy sal die besnedenes deur die geloof, en die onbednedenes deur dieselfde geloof vryspreek.
“Hef ons dan deur die GELOOF die Wet op? Beslis nie. Ons laat die Wet juis tot sy reg kom.

(Romeine 4:1-3)

“Wat moet ons nou sê was die geval met ons stamvader Abraham?
“As Abraham op grond van sy dade vrygespreek is, dan het hy ‘n rede gehad om te roem. Maar nie by God nie!
“Wat sê die Skrif? ‘Abraham het in God GEGLO en God het hom vrygespreek.’”

DEUR DIE WET LEER MENS WAT SONDE IS:

“Dit weet ons: Alles wat Moses se Wet sê, sê hy vir die wat die Wet het. Niemand sal homself dus kan verweer nie, en die hele wêreld is strafwaardig voor God.
“Daarom sal geen mens op grond van wets-onderhouding deur God vrygespreek word nie; inteendeel, deur die Wet leer mens wat sonde is.
“Maar nou het die vryspraak van God, waarvan die Wet en die Profete getuig, in werking getree. Dit is die vryspraak wat nie verkry word deur die Wet te onderhou nie,
“maar deur in Jesus Christus te glo. God gee dit sonder onderskeid aan almal wat glo.
“Almal het gesondig, en het nie deel aan die Heerlikheid van God nie,
“maar hulle word, sonder dat hulle dit verdien, op grond van Sy Genade vrygespreek vanweë die Verlossing deur Jesus Christus.
“Hom het God gegee as offer wat deur Sy bloed versoening bewerk het vir dié wat glo.
“Hierdeur het God getoon wat Sy vryspraak behels. Hy het die sondes wat Hy voorheen in Sy verdraagsaamheid tydelik ongestraf laat bly het, vergewe. Maar Hy het ook getoon wat Sy vryspraak in die teenswoordige tyd behels: Hy oordeel Regverdig deurdat Hy elkeen vryspreek wat in Jesus glo.”

THROUGH THE LAW COMES KNOWLEDGE OF SIN:

“Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.
“For by works of the Law no human being will be justified in His sight, since through the Law, comes knowledge of sin.
“But now the Righteousness of God Has been manifested apart from the Law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it –
“the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:
“for all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God,
“and are justified by His Grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
“Whom God put forward as a propitiation by His blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s Righteousness because in His divine forbearance, He Had passed over former sins.
“It was to show His Righteousness at the present time, so that He might be Just and the Justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.”
