(Matthéüs 14:1-8)

HERODIAS SE DOGTER HET VOOR DIE GASTE GEDANS:

1. Juis in daardie tyd het Herodes Antipas van Jesus se optrede gehoor.

2. Daarop sê hy vir sy paleis-personeel: ‘Hierdie Man is niemand anders as Johannes die Doper wat uit die dood opgestaan het nie! Daarom kan hy sulke wonderwerke doen.’

3. Herodes het vir Johannes oor Herodias laat arresteer, hom geboei, en in die tronk gegooi. Herodias was sy broer Filippus se vrou, maar Herodes het haar vir homself toegeëien. Johannes het hom hieroor herhaaldelik aangespreek en vir hom gesê:

4. ‘Jy mag dit nie doen nie!’

5. Hieroor wou Herodes hom om die lewe bring, maar hy was bang vir die volk se reaksie, want in hulle oë was Johannes ‘n Profeet.

6. Met Herodes se verjaarsdag-viering, het Herodias se dogter voor die gaste gedans. Herodes was so in sy skik daarmee,

7. dat hy vir haar gesweer het: ‘Sowaar, vra my net wat jy wil.’

8. Aangepor deur haar ma, vra sy toe: ‘Bring vir my op ‘n skinkbord die kop van Johannes die Doper!’

THE DAUGHTER OF HERODIAS DANCED BEFORE THE COMPANY:

1. At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus.

2. And he said to his servants: ‘This is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead; that is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.’

3. For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison, for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

4. because John had been saying to him: ‘It is not lawful for you to have her.’

5. And though he wanted to put him to death, he feared the people, because they held him to be a Prophet.

6. But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company and pleased Herod,

7. so that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask.

8. Prompted by her mother, she said: ‘Give me the head of John the Baptist, here on a platter!’

(Matthéüs 13:53-58)

HULLE WAS VERONTWAARDIG:

53. Toe Jesus hierdie gelykenisse klaar vertel het, het Hy daarvandaan vertrek.

54. In Nasaret aangekom waar Hy groot-geword het, het Hy die mense in die sinagoge onderrig. Hulle was verbaas en het gesê: ‘Waar kry Hy hierdie wysheid en wonderwerke vandaan?

55. ‘Is Hy dan nie maar net die timmerman se Seun nie? En is Maria nie Sy ma, en Jakobus, Josef en Simon en Judas nie Sy broers nie?

56. ‘En Sy susters, hulle woon tog almal hier onder ons. Wat maak Hom so danig belangrik?’

57. Hulle was verontwaardig en wou niks van Hom weet nie. Daarop het Jesus vir hulle gesê: “‘n Profeet word oral gerespekteer, behalwe in Sy tuisdorp, en in sy eie familie-kring.”

58. As gevolg van hulle ongeloof, het Hy daar maar min wonderwerke gedoen.

THEY TOOK OFFENSE AT HIM:

53. And when Jesus Had finished these parables, He went away from there,

54. and coming to His hometown, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said: ‘Where did this Man get this wisdom and these Mighty works?

55. ‘Is this not the carpenter’s Son? Is not His mother called Mary? And are not His brothers James and Joseph, Simon and Judas

56. ‘Are not all His sisters with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?’

57. And they took offense at Him. But Jesus said to them:? “A Prophet is not without honour, except in His home town and in His own household.”

58. And He did not do many Mighty works there, because of their unbelief.

“DIE ENGELE SAL DIE SLEGTE MENSE WEGNEEM VAN DIE GOEIES:”

45. “God se Koninkryk is ook soos ‘n pêrel-handelaar op soek na mooi pêrels.

46. “As hy een baie kosbare pêrel raakloop, gaan verkoop hy alles wat hy het, en koop daardie pêrel.

47. “Verder is God se Koninkryk soos ‘n treknet wat in die see uitgegooi word, allerhande soorte vis bymekaar bring.

48. “Wanneer dit vol is, sleep die vissers dit op die strand uit. Hulle gaan sit, soorteer die goeie vis in kratte, en gooi die slegtes weg.

49. “So sal dit ook wees by die voleinding van die wêreld. Die engele sal kom, die slegte mense wegneem, van die goeies,

50. “en hulle in die brandende oond gooi. Hulle sal bitterlik huil, en van selfverwyt op hulle tande kners.

51. “Verstaan julle dit alles?” Hulle antwoord Hom: ‘Ja Here, ons verstaan.’

52. Hy voeg toe by: “Elke skrifkenner wat ‘n ware student in God se Koninkryk geword het, is soos ‘n huiseienaar wat nuwe sowel as ou dinge uit sy stoorkamer te voorskyn haal.”

“THE ANGELS WILL COME OUT AND SEPARATE THE EVIL FROM THE RIGHTEOUS:”

45. “Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls,

46. “who on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

47. “Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea, and gathered fish of every kind.

48. “When it was full, men drew it ashore, and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad.

49. “So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous,

50. “and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

51. “Have you understood all these things?” They said to Him: ‘Yes Lord,’

52. And He said to them: “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the Kingdom of heaven, is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure, what is new and what is old.”

(Matthéüs 13:39-46)

“DIE REGVERDIGES SAL SOOS DIE SON SKITTER:”

39. Die duiwel is die vyand wat die onkruid saai. Die oestyd is die voleinding van die wêreld, en dié wat oes, is die engele.

40. “Net soos die onkruid bymekaar gemaak word en verbrand word, so sal dit ook wees by die voleinding van die wêreld.

41. “Ek, die Seun van die mens, sal My engele uitstuur. Hulle sal alles wat sonde veroorsaak en almal wat God se Wet oortree, uit My Koninkryk verwyder.

42. “en hulle in die brandende oond gooi. Daardie mense sal bitterlik huil, en van selfverwyt op hulle tande kners.

43. “Dan sal dié wat reg voor God gelewe het, soos die son skitter, in die Koninkryk van hulle Vader. Elkeen wat kan hoor, moet goed luister na wat Ek sê.

44. “God se Koninkryk is soos ‘n skat wat in ‘n stuk grond weggesteek lê. Iemand kry dit daar, maar steek dit dadelik weer weg. Oorstelp van blydskap gaan verkoop hy alles wat hy het, en koop daardie stuk grond.”

“THE RIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE LIKE THE SUN;”

39. “And the enemy who sowed the weeds, is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels

40. “Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.

41. “The Son of man will send His angels, and they will gather out of His Kingdom all causes of sin and all Law breakers,

42. “and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

43. “Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

44. “The Kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.”

PÊREL VIR ELKE DAG:

(Matthéüs 13:31-38)

“EK SAL DEUR MIDDEL VAN GELYKENISSE MET JULLE PRAAT:”

31. Hier is nog ‘n ander gelykenis wat Hy hulle vertel het: “God se Konings-heerskappy is soos ‘n mostert-saad wat iemand in sy tuin geplant het.

32. “Dit is die kleinste van alle saad-soorte, maar as dit groei, word dit groter as al die plante in die tuin. Dit word so ‘n groot boom, dat die voëls in sy takke kan kom nes maak.”

33. Hy het ook die volgende gelykenis vir hulle vertel. “God se Konings-heerskappy is soos suurdeeg wat ‘n vrou gebruik het om brood te bak. Al het sy net ‘n bietjie suurdeeg in ‘n groot baksel meel ingewerk, het dit uiteindelik alles deurseer.”

34. Jesus het altyd gelykenisse soos hierdie gebruik, as Hy met die skare praat. Hy het nooit met hulle gepraat sonder om gelykenisse te gebruik nie.

35. So het die uitspraak van die Profeet uitgekom: ‘+Ek sal deur middel van gelykenisse met julle praat. Ek sal bekend maak wat geheim gebly het van die skepping van die wêreld af.’+

36. Daarna het Jesus van die skare af weggegaan huis toe. Sy dissipels kom toe na Hom toe en vra: ‘Verduidelik asseblief vir ons die gelykenis van die onkruid op die saailand.’

37. “Goed,” antwoord Jesus: “Ek, die Seun van die mens, is die Boer wat die goeie saad saai.

38. “Die saailand is die wêreld. Die goeie saad is die mense wat aan God se Koninkryk behoort. Die onkruid is hulle wat aan die bose behoort.”

(Matthew 13:31-38)

“I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN PARABLES:”

31. He put another parable before them, saying: “The Kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, that a man took and sowed in his field.

32. “It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown, it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

33. He told them another parable: “The Kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”

34. All these things Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed, He said nothing to them without a parable.

35. This is to fulfill what was spoken by the Prophet: ‘+I Will open My mouth in parables; I Will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.’+

36. Then He left the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying: ‘Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field,’

37. He answered: “The one Who sows the good seed is the Son of man.

38. “The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the Kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one.”
