THEY WERE GREATLY PERPLEXED ABOUT THEM:

PÊREL VIR ELKE DAG:

(Handelinge 5:22-32)

HULLE WAS VERSTOM DAAROOR:

22. Maar toe die tempelwagte by die tronk kom, was die apostels weg. Hulle het kom rapporteer:

23. ‘Ons het die tronk toegesluit en ten volle beveilig gekry. Die bewaarders was buite op hulle pos. Toe ons egter die tronkdeure oopmaak, was daar niemand binne nie!

24. Toe die bevelvoerder van die tempelwag en die priesterhoofde hierdie verslag hoor, was hulle verstom, en hulle het gewonder wat aangaan.

25. Net toe kom iemand en sê vir hulle: ‘Weet julle, die mans wie julle in die tronk gesit het, staan in die tempel en onderrig die mense!’

26. Die bevelvoerder het toe saam met die tempelwagte die apostels gaan arresteer. Hulle het nie geweld gebruik nie, want hulle was bang die mense steek hulle onder die klippe.

27. Hulle het hulle voor die Raad gebring, en die hoofpriester het hulle begin ondervra:

28. ‘Het ons julle nie belet om ooit weer die mense in hierdie Man se Naam te verkondig nie? En nou lê die hele Jerusalem vol van julle leer oor Jesus! Boonop wil julle ons ook nog verantwoordelik hou vir
Sy dood!’

29. Petrus en die ander apostels het in reaksie gesê: “Ons moet eerder aan God gehoorsaam wees as aan mense!

30. “Die God van ons voorouers het Jesus uit die dood opgewek, nadat julle Hom vermoor het, deur Hom te kruisig.

31. “God het Hom verhoog tot Leier en Verlosser in die regeer-posisie, reg langs Hom. Hy het dit gedoen om Israel tot inkeer te bring, sodat hulle vergifnis van sonde kan ontvang.

32. “Óns is getuies hiervan, ons en die Heilige Gees wat God gegee het aan almal wat aan Hom gehoorsaam is.”

(Acts 5:22-32)

THEY WERE GREATLY PERPLEXED ABOUT THEM:

22. But when the officers came, they did not find them in the prison, so they returned and reported:

23. ‘We found the prison securely locked, and the guards standing at the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside.’

24. When the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them, wondering what this would come to.

25. And someone came and told them: ‘Look! The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people!’

26. Then the captain with the officers went and brought them, but not by force, for they were afraid of being stoned by the people.

27. And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them,

28. saying: ‘We strictly charged you not to teach in this Name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this Man’s blood upon us.’

29. But Peter and the apostles answered: “We must obey God rather than men.

30. “The God of our fathers raised Jesus, Whom you killed, by hanging Him on a tree.

31. “God exalted Him to His right hand, as Leader and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

32. “And we are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, Whom God Has given to those who obey Him.”

THE PEOPLE HELD THEM IN HIGH ESTEEM:

(Handelinge 5:12-21)

DIE MENSE HET HOË AGTING VIR HULLE GEHAD:

12. Die apostels het baie tekens en wonders onder die volk gedoen. Al die gelowiges het gereeld saamgekom in die deel van die tempel wat as die Pilaargang van Salomo bekend staan.

13. Niemand anders het dit sommer gewaag om by hulle aan te sluit nie, al het hulle hoë agting vir hulle gehad.

14. Al meer mense het in die Here geglo, groot getalle mans en vroue.

15. Mense het selfs siekes op draagbare en bedmatjies in die straat uitgedra, sodat wanneer Petrus verby loop, sy skaduwee dalk op party van hulle kon val.

16. Skares mense het van die dorpe rondom Jerusalem af gekom, en siekes en mense gebring wat onder onrein geeste gely het. Hulle is almal gesond gemaak.

17. Die hoofpriester en sy ondersteuners, die Sadduseërs, word toe jaloers, en het besluit om iets aan die saak te doen.

18. Hulle het die apostels gearresteer en in die publieke tronk gestop.

19. Maar ‘n engel van die Here het in die nag die tronkdeure oopgemaak, hulle uitgelei, en vir hulle gesê:

20. “Gaan tempel toe en verkondig aan die volk die volle boodskap van hierdie nuwe manier van Lewe!”

21. Hulle het geluister en met dagbreek tempel toe gegaan, en die mense begin onderrig. Toe het die hoofpriester en sy amptenare ‘n sitting van die Joodse Raad en die leiers van Israel belê. Hulle het toe die apostels vir die verhoor van die tronk af laat haal.

(Acts 5:12-21)

THE PEOPLE HELD THEM IN HIGH ESTEEM:

12. Many signs and wonders were regularly done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon’s portico.

13. None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high esteem.

14. And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,

15. so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by, ar least his shadow might fall on some of them.

16. The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed.

17. But the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him, (that is, the party of the Sadducees), and filled with jealousy,

18. they arrested the apostles, and put them in the public prison.

19. But during the night, an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out, and said:

20. “Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life.”

21. And when they heard this, they entered the temple at daybreak, and began to teach. When the high priest came and those who were with him, they called together the council, all the senate of the people of Israel, and sent to the prison to have the apostles brought.

ANANIAS AND SAPPHIRA:

(Handelinge 5:1-11)

ANANIAS EN SAFFIRA:

1. Daar egter ook ‘n sekere man, naamlik Ananias, wat saam met sy vrou Saffira, ‘n eiendom verkoop het.

2. Hy het met die medewete van sy vrou van die verkoopsprys vir hulleself gehou, en net ‘n gedeelte daarvan gebring en vir die apostels gegee.

3. Petrus sê toe: “Ananias, hoekom het jy jou deur satan laat omhaal? Jy het vir die Heilige Gees gelieg, toe jy ‘n deel van die geld teruggehou het.

4. “Die grond was joune om te verkoop of nie. En selfs ná jy dit verkoop het, kon jy met die geld gemaak het wat jy wou. Hoe kon jy so iets doen? Jy het nie vir mense gelieg nie, maar vir God.”

5. Toe Ananias hierdie woorde hoor, het hy neergeval en gesterf. Almal wat hiervan gehoor het, het groot geskrik.

6. ‘n Paar jong mans het hom toegedraai en gaan begrawe.

7. Omtrent drie ure later het sy vrou ingekom, onbewus van wat gebeur het.

8. Petrus vra haar toe: “Het julle die grond vir hierdie bedrag verkoop?” ‘Ja,’ het sy geantwoord. ‘Dit was die bedrag.’

9. Toe sê Petrus vir haar: “Waarom het julle twee saamgesweer om die Gees van die Here te toets? Net hier buite die deur is die jong mans wat jou man begrawe het, en hulle gaan jou ook uitdra.”

10. Onmiddellik het sy by sy voete neergeval en gesterf. Toe die jong mans inkom, en sien sy is dood, het hulle haar by haar man gaan begrawe.

11. Die hele gemeente het groot geskrik, en al die ander wat hiervan gehoor het, ook.

(Acts 5:1-11)

ANANIAS AND SAPPHIRA:

1. But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property,

2. and with his wife’s knowledge, he kept back for himself some of the proceeds, and brought only a part of it, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

3. But Peter said: “Ananias, why has satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land?

4. “While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man, but to God.”

5. When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it.

6. The young men rose and wrapped him up and carried him out, and buried him.

7. After an interval of obout three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.

8. And Peter said to her: “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much.” And she said: ‘Yes, for so much.’

9. But Peter said to her: “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out!”

10. Immediately she fell down at his feet, and breathed her last. When the young men came in, they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

11. And great fear came upon the whole Church and upon all who heard of these things.

GREAT GRACE WAS UPON THEM ALL:

(Handelinge 4:32-37)

GOD HET SY GENADE RYKLIK AAN ELKEEN GEGEE:

32. Al die gelowiges was in hart en siel een. Niemand het opgetree asof sy besittings net sy eie was nie. Hulle het alles gedeel wat hulle gehad het.

33. Die apostels het kragtige getuienis gegee oor die opstanding van die Here Jesus. En God het Sy genade ryklik aan elkeen gegee.

34. Nie een van hulle het ‘n tekort gehad nie, want gelowiges wat grond of huise gehad het, het dit verkoop en die opbrengs daarvan gebring,

35. en vir die apostels gegee. Hulle het dit dan uitgedeel volgens elkeen se behoefte.

36. So was daar byvoorbeeld Josef, wat deur die apostels Barnabas genoem is. (Dit beteken iemand wat mense moed inpraat). Hy was uit die stam van Levi, en is op Siprus gebore.

37. Hy het sy grond verkoop en die geld vir die apostels gebring om vir mense te gee wat tekort het.

(Acts 4:32-37)

GREAT GRACE WAS UPON THEM ALL:

32. The full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him, was his own, but they had everything in common.

33. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.

34. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses, sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold,

35. and laid it at the apostles’ feet. And it was distributed to each, as any had need.

36. Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas, (which means, son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus,

37. sold a field that belonged to him, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

HULLE HET GOD SE BOODSKAP ONVERSKROKKE VERKONDIG: +++

26. ‘+Die konings van die aarde het hulle slaggereed gemaak; die heersers het saamgespan teen die Here en teen Sy Messias.’+

27. “Dit is wat hier in hierdie stad gebeur het! Herodes Antipas, Pontius Pilatus die goewerneur, die ander volke en die volk Israel, het saamgespan teen Jesus, U Heilige Dienaar, wat deur U toegerus was vir Sy taak.

28. “Eintlik was alles wat hulle gedoen het, volgens U beskikking en besluit.

29. “En nou Here, hoor hoe dreig hulle ons. Gee dat ons, U diensknegte, U Woord met waagmoed sal verkondig.

30. “Steek U hand uit en bewerk genesing, en laat daar tekens en wonders plaasvind, deur die Naam van U Heilige Dienaar, Jesus.”

31. Na hierdie gebed het die gebou waar hulle bymekaar was, geskud, en hulle is almal met die Heilige Gees vervul. En hulle het God se boodskap onverskrokke verkondig.

THEY CONTINUED TO SPEAK THE WORD OF GOD WITH BOLDNESS:

26. ‘+The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord and against His Anointed.’+

27. “For truly in this city they were gathered together against Your Holy Servant Jesus, Whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel,

28. “to do whatever Your hand and Your plan Had predestined to take place.

29. “And now Lord, look upon their threats, and grant to Your servants to continue to speak Your Word with all boldness,

30. “while You stretch out Your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the Name of Your Holy Servant Jesus.”

31. And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and continued to speak the Word of God with boldness.
