(1 Korintiërs 11:9-16)

ALLES IS VAN GOD AFKOMSTIG:

9. “Die eerste man is immers nie uit die vrou geneem nie, maar die vrou uit die man.

10. “Die vrou moet dus ‘n kop-bedekking op hê, as teken van haar man se gesag oor haar, want die engele is besig om toe te kyk.

11. “Tog, voor die Here is die vrou aangewese op die man en die man is weer aangewese op die vrou.

12. “Want alhoewel die eerste vrou uit die man afkomstig was, is alle mans sedertdien uit vroue gebore. En uiteindelik is alles van God afkomstig.

13. “Oordeel julle nou maar self: Is dit ordentlik vir ‘n vrou om in die erediens met ‘n onbedekte kop tot God te bid?

14. “Leer julle gevoel van ordentlikheid nie vir julle dat dit vir ‘n man oneervol is, as hy ‘n kopbedekking opsit,

15. “maar dat ‘n bedekking vir ‘n vrou juis ‘n sieraad is nie? Lang hare is immers as ‘n bedekking vir haar gegee.

16. “Maar as iemand hieroor wil argumenteer – ons het in elk geval nie so ‘n gebruik nie, en ook nie die ander Gemeentes van God nie.”

9. “Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

10. “That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels that watch.

11. “Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor man of woman;

12. “for, as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman, and all things are from God.

13. “Judge for yourselves; is it proper for a wife to pray to God with her head uncovered?

14. “Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him,

15. “but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.

16. “If anyone is inclined to to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor do the Churches of God.”

DIE MAN IS GOD SE BEELD EN SIERAAD:

1. “Volg julle dan my voorbeeld, soos ek Christus s’n volg.

2. “Ek wil julle daarvoor prys dat julle in alles aan my dink, en dat julle bly vashou aan ons geloofs-oortuigings soos ek dit aan julle oorgedra het.

3. “Ek wil egter hê julle moet weet dat Christus Hoof is oor elke man, dat die man hoof is oor sy vrou, en dat God Hoof is oor Christus.

4. “Elke man wat met ‘n kopbedekking bid of profeteer, doen Christus oneer aan.

5. “Elke vrou wat bid of profeteer sonder dat sy haar kop bedek, doen haar man oneer aan; want dis dieselfde as wanneer haar hare afgeskeer sou wees.

6. “Ja, as sy weier om ‘n kopbedekking te dra, kan sy ewe goed haar hare ook maar afsny. Maar aangesien dit ‘n skande vir ‘n vrou is as haar hare afgesny of haar kop kaalgeskeer is, behoort sy ‘n kopbedekking te dra.

7. “‘n Man behoort egter nie ‘n kop-befekking op te hê wanneer hy aanbid nie, want hy is God se Beeld en Sieraad. Die vrou is weer die man se sieraad.

8. “Die eerste man is immers nie uit die vrou geneem nie, maar die vrou uit die man.”

MAN IS THE IMAGE AND GLORY OF GOD:

1. “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

2. “I commend you, because you remember me in everything, and maintain the traditions, even as I delivered them to you.

3. “But I want you to understand, that the Head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the Head of Christ is God.

4. “Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered, dishonours his head,

5. “but every wife who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered, dishonors her head, since it is the same as if her head were shaven.

6. “For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair, or shave her head, let her cover her head.

7. “For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the Image and Glory of God, but the woman is the glory of man.

8. “For man was not made from woman, but woman from man.”

DIE AARDE EN AL SY VOLHEID BEHOORT AAN DIE HERE:

24. “Moenie op julle eie belange ingestel wees nie, maar wees ingestel op wat vir ander die beste is.

25. “Handel dan soos volg: Eet alles wat in die slaghuis verkoop word. Moenie vra of daarvan aan die afgode geoffer was of nie, sodat jou gewete nie belas word nie.

26. “Want: ‘Die aarde en al sy volheid behoort aan die Here.’

27. “As ‘n ongelowige julle vir ‘n ete nooi, en jy besluit om te gaan, eet dan alles wat aan julle voorgesit word, sonder om enige vrae daaroor te vra. Moet dit dan nie vir julle gewete moeilik maak nie.

28. “Maar, veronderstel iemand sê vir julle dat die vleis vir ‘n afgod geoffer was, moet dit dan nie eet nie, uit bedagsaamheid teenoor die een wat dit vir julle vertel het, en ter wille van die gewete –

29. “ek bedoel nie julle eie gewete nie, maar die ander persoon s’n. Moet my vryheid dan ingeperk word deur iemand anders se gewetens-besware?

30. “As ek God kan dank vir die kos, en dít geniet, is dit dan reg dat ek daarvoor veroordeel word?

31. “Wat julle ook al eet of drink, of wat julle ook al doen, doen alles tot eer van God.

32. “Moenie die Jode aanstoot gee nie, ook nie vir die Grieke of vir die Gemeente van God nie. Dit is ook my beleid.

33. “Ek probeer om alles in almal tegemoet te kom. Ek soek nie my eie voordeel nie, maar dié van baie ander, met die oog op hulle verlossing.”

THE EARTH IS THE LORD’S AND THE FULLNESS THEREOF:

24. “Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbour.

25. “Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, without raising any question on the ground of conscience.

26. “For: ‘The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.’

27. “If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you, without raising any questions on the ground of conscience.

28. “But if someone says to you: ‘This has been offered in sacrifice,’ then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience.

29. “I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by someone else’s conscience?

30. “If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that, for which I give thanks?

31. “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

32. “Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the Church of God,

33. “just as I try to please everyone in everything, I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.”

VLUG WEG VAN AFGODSDIENS:

14. “Daarom my geliefdes, vlug weg van afgodsdiens.

15. “ Ek weet ek praat met verstandige mense. Oordeel self oor wat ek nou gaan sê:

16. “Wanneer ons aan die ‘Tafel van die Here,’ die seën van die Here uitspreek, kry ons mos aandeel aan Christus se liggaam.

17. “Omdat ons almal aandeel aan een en dieselfde brood kry, maak ons almal saam, al is ons baie mense, een liggaam uit.

18. “Ek dink aan die volk Israel. Almal wat van die offers eet, word daardeur tot ‘n eenheid verenig.

19. “Wat probeer ek sê? Bedoel ek dat afgodsoffers iets belangriks is, of dat die afgode werklik bestaan?

20. “Hoegenaamd nie. Wat ek egter wel sê is dat daardie offers in werklikheid aan duiwels gebring word, en nie aan ‘n godheid nie. En ek wil nie hê enigeen van julle moet met die duiwels gemeenskap hê nie.

21. “Julle kan tog nie die ‘Beker van die Here,’ drink en nog ook die beker van die duiwels nie! Julle kan nie aan die ‘Tafel van die Here,’ deel hê, en ook nog aan die tafel van die duiwels nie!

22. “Wil julle werklik die Here uittart? Ons is tog nie magtiger as Hy nie!

23. “Julle sê: ‘Alles is ons geoorloof.’ Ja, maar alles is nie tot voordeel nie. Alles is inderdaad geoorloof, maar nie alles is opbouend vir almal nie.”

(1 Corinthians 10:14-23)

AVOID ANY SORT OF IDOLATRY:

14. “Therefore my dearly beloved, shun (keep clear away from, avoid by flight if need be) any sort of idolatry. (Of loving or venerating anything more than God.)

15. “I am speaking as to intelligent (sensible) men. Think over and make up your minds (for yourselves), about what I say. (I appeal to your reason and your discernment in these matters:)

16. The ‘Cup of Blessing,’ (of wine at the ‘Lord’s Supper,’ upon which we ask God’s blessing, does it not mean (that in drinking it), we participate in and share a fellowship (a communion) in the blood of Christ the Messiah)? The bread which we break, does it not mean (that in eating it), we participate in and share a fellowship (a communion) in the body of Christ?

17. “For we (no matter how) numerous as we are, are one body, because we all partake of the one Bread. (The One Whom the communion bread represents.)

18. “Consider those (physically) people of Israel. Are not those who eat the sacrifices partners of the alter, (united in their worship of the same God)?

19. “What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is (intrinsically changed by the fact and amounts to) anything or that an idol itself is a living thing?

20. “No, I am suggesting that what the pagans sacrifice, the offer (in effect) to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons.

21. “You cannot drink the ‘Cup of the Lord’ and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the ‘Table of the Lord’ and the table of demons.

22. “Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?

23. You might say: ‘All things are lawful,’ but I will answer: But not all things are helpful. All things are lawful, but not all things build up.”
