(Matthéüs 19:16-22)

“RESPEKTEER JOU PA EN MA:”

16. Iemand het na Jesus toe gekom met die vraag: ‘Goeie Leermeester watter goeie ding moet ek doen om die Ewige Lewe te ontvang?’

17. Jesus het hom geantwoord: “Waarom vra jy My uit oor wat goed is? Net God is werklik goed. Maar om jou vraag te beantwoord: “Jy kan die Ewige Lewe verkry, deur die gebooie te onderhou.”

18. Hy vra toe vir Jesus: ‘Watter gebooie?’Jesus antwoord toe: “Jy mag nie moord pleeg nie, jy mag nie ontrou wees in jou huwelik nie, jy mag nie steel nie; jy mag nie onwaar getuienis aflê nie;

19. “respekteer jou pa en ma; jy moet jou naaste liefhê soos jouself.”

20. ‘Ek het al hierdie gebooie nagekom,’ antwoord die jongman. Wat moet ek nóg doen?”

21. Jesus se antwoord was: “As jy volmaak wil wees, gaan verkoop alles wat jy het, en gee jou geld vir die armes. Dan sal jy ‘n skat in die hemel hê. Kom dan, en word My dissipel.”

22. Toe die jong man dit hoor, het hy geskok weggegaan, want hy het baie besittings gehad.

“HONOUR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER:”

16. A man came up to Him, saying: ‘Good Teacher, what good deed must I do to have Eternal Life?’

17. And He replied: “Why do you ask Me about what is good? There is only One that is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.”

18. He said to Him: ‘Which ones?’ And Jesus said: “You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness.

19. “Honour your father and your mother, and you shall love your neighbour as yourself.”

20. The young man replied: ‘All these I have kept. What do I still lack?’

21. Jesus said to him: “If you would be perfect, go, sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven, and come, follow Me.”

22. When the young man heard this, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

“LET THE CHILDREN COME TO ME:”

(Matthéüs 19:10-15)

“LAAT DIE KINDERS NA MY TOE KOM:”

10. Sy dissipels sê toe vir Hom: ‘As dit met mans en vroue die geval is, moet ‘n mens maar liewer nie trou nie.’

11. “Nie almal sal met julle saamstem nie,” het Hy hulle geantwoord. “Daar is dié vir wie dit gegee is om nie te trou nie.

12. “Sommige is so van hulle geboorte af; ander is deur menslike mishandeling so gemaak; nog ander het ter wille van die Konings-heerskappy van God, self verkies om so te bly. Wie die nodige insig het, laat hy dit verwerk.”

13. Op ‘n dag is kindertjies na Hom toe gebring, sodat Hy Sy hande op hulle kon lê, en vir hulle kon bid. Sy dissipels het hulle egter daaroor aangespreek.

14. Maar Jesus se reaksie was: “Laat staan die kindertjies, moenie hulle keer om na My toe te kom nie, want God se Koninkryk is juis bedoel vir almal wat soos hulle is.”

15. En Hy het Sy hande op hulle koppe gesit en hulle geseën. Daarna het Hy vertrek.

“LET THE CHILDREN COME TO ME:”

(Matthew 19:10-15)

10. Then the disciples said to Him: ‘In such a case of a man and His wife, it is better not to marry.’

11. But He said to them: “Not everyone can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given.

12. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs, for the sake of the Kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive it, receive it.”

13. Then children were brought to Him, that He might lay His hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people,

14. but Jesus said: “Let the children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the Kingdom of heaven.

15. And He laid His hands on them, and went away.

(Matthéüs 19:1-9)

“HULLE IS DUS NIE MEER TWEE NIE, MAAR EEN LIGGAAM:”

1. Nadat Jesus klaar gepraat het, het Hy van Gililea vertrek en in Perea aangekom. Hierdie gebied het aan Judea gegrens, maar was aan die Oostekant van die Jordaan geleë.

2. ‘n Massa mense het Hom daarheen gevolg en Hy het hulle siekes gesond gemaak.

3. Daar het toe Fariseërs na Hom toe gekom, in ‘n poging om Hom in ‘n strik te laat trap. Hulle vra Hom toe: ‘Mag ‘n man sommer oor enige onbenulligheid van sy vrou skei?’

4. Sy antwoord was: “Het julle nie in die Skrif gelees dat die Skepper die mens van die begin af man en vrou gemaak het nie?

5. “En die Skrif sê verder: Daarom sal ‘n man sy pa en ma agtergelaat, en hom by sy vrou voeg. So sal hulle tot een liggaam verenig word.

6. “Hulle is dus nie meer twee nie, maar een liggaam. Wat God so saamgevoeg het, mag ‘n mens nie uitmekaar skeur nie.”

7. Hulle vra Hom toe: ‘Maar waarom het Moses dan gesê ‘n man kan sommer net vir sy vrou ‘n skei-dokument gee en haar dan laat gaan?’

8. Hy sê toe vir hulle: “Moses het egskeiding toegelaat as ‘n toegewing aan die sondige hardheid van julle harte, maar dit was nie wat God oorspronklik bedoel het nie.

9. “Dit verseker Ek julle: ‘n man wat van sy vrou skei oor enige ander rede as oor huweliks-ontrou, en met iemand anders trou, is self skuldig aan huweliks-ontrou.”

“THEY ARE NO LONGER TWO, BUT ONE FLESH:”

1. When Jesus had finished these sayings, He went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea, beyond the Jordan.

2. And large crowds followed Him, and He healed them there.

3. And Pharisees came up to Him, and tested Him by asking: “Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?’

4. Jesus answered: “Have you not read that He Who created them from the beginning, made them male and female,

5. “and said: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh?

6. “So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God Has joined together, let not a man separate.”

7. They said to Him: ‘Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce, and to send her away?’

8. He said to them: “Because of your hardness of heart, Moses allowed you to divorce your wifes, but from the beginning it was not so.

9. “And I say to you: Whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.”

HULLE WAS UITERMATE ONTSTELD:

31. “Toe sy mede-amptenare sien wat gebeur het, was hulle uitermate ontsteld. Hulle het alles wat gebeur het, aan die koning gaan vertel.

32. “Daarop het die koning daardie man laat roep en vir hom gesê: ‘Jou ellendige vent! Toe jy my gesoebat het, het ek vir jou al jou skuld afgeskryf.

33. “‘Moes jy jou nie ook oor jou mede-amptenaar ontferm het, soos ek my oor jou ontferm het nie?’

34. “Woedend het die koning hom toe oorgegee aan die folteraars, om elke sent uit hom te pers, totdat hy al sy skuld betaal het.

35. “So sal My hemelse Vader ook met julle maak, as julle weier om julle mede-gelowiges met julle hele hart te vergewe.”

31. “When his fellow-servants saw what has taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place.

32. “Then his master summoned him, and said to him: ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt, because you pleaded with me.

33. “‘And should you not have had mercy on your fellow-servant, as I had mercy on you?’

34. “And in his anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt.

35. “So also My heavenly Father Will do to everyone of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.”

(Matthéüs 18:23-30)

“HY HET HOM LAAT GAAN, EN SY SKULD AFGESKRYF:”

23. “Om hierdie rede kan God se Konings-heerskappy vergelyk word met ‘n koning wat besluit het om na te gaan wat sy amptenare hom skuld.

24. “Skaars het die ondersoek begin, of een word na hom toe gebring wat miljoene rande skuld.

25. “Toe hy dit nie kon bybring nie, gee die koning opdrag dat hy, sy vrou en sy kinders verkoop moet word om sy skuld te betaal.

26. “Hy val toe voor die koning neer en smeek hom: ‘Gee my kans, ek sal alles aan u terugbetaal.’

27. “Daarop het die koning hom innig jammer gekry. Hy het hom laat gaan, en sy skuld afgeskryf.

28. “Toe die amptenaar daarvandaan weggaan, loop hy egter een van sy mede-amptenare raak, wat hom net ‘n paar rand geskuld het. Hy gryp hom toe aan die keel en sê: ‘Betaal jou skuld!’

29. “Sy mede-amptenaar val toe voor hom neer en smeek hom: ‘Gee my kans, ek sal alles aan jou terugbetaal.’

30. “Maar daarvan wou sy skuldeiser nie hoor nie. Hy is daar weg, en hom in die tronk laat gooi, waar hy sou moes bly, totdat hy al sy skuld afbetaal het.”

“HE RELEASED HIM, AND FORGAVE HIM HIS DEBT:”

23. “Therefore the Kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king, who wished to settle the accounts with his servants.

24. “When He began to settle, one was brought to him who owed ten thousand talents.

25. “And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

26. “So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything!’

27. “And out of pity for him, the master of that servant, released him, and forgave him his debt.

28. “But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying: ‘Pay what you owe.’

29. “So his fellow-servant fell down and pleaded with him: ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you.’

30. He refused and went and put him in prison, until he should pay the debt.
