(Matthéüs 22:10-17)

DAAR IS MEER GENOOIDES AS UITVERKORENES:

10. “Toe het daardie slawe op die paaie uitgegaan en elkeen saamgebring wat hulle kon kry, slegtes sowel as goeies. So het die bruilof-saal vol gaste geword.

11. “Toe die koning egter die saal binnekom om die gaste te ontmoet, merk hy iemand op wat sonder bruilofsklere opgedaag het.

12. “Daarop sê hy vir die persoon: ‘My vriend, hoe het jy dan sonder die regte klere hier ingekom? Maar hy kon geen verskoning aanbied nie.

13. “Toe sê die koning vir sy slawe: ‘Bind hierdie vent stewig vas, en smyt hom uit in die donker daarbuite, waar daar bitterlik gehuil en van selfverwyt op die tande gekners sal word.

14. “‘Daar is inderdaad meer genooides as uitverkorenes.’”

15. Die Fariseërs het toe vergadering gaan hou om te bespreek hoe hulle Jesus op ‘n verkeerde opmerking sou kon uitvang, om as aanklag teen Hom te gebruik.

16. Hulle stuur toe ‘n paar van hulle volgelinge saam met ondersteuners van Herodes, wat toe vir Jesus vra: ‘Leermeester, ons weet hoe eerlik U is. Sonder om doekies om te draai, leer U mense wat God van ons verwag. U ontsien niemand nie, want U laat U laat U nie beïnvloed deur mense se belangrikheid nie.

17. ‘Sê dan vir ons wat is U standpunt: Is dit reg om aan die keiser belasting te betaal of nie?’

MANY ARE CALLED BUT FEW ARE CHOSEN:

10. “And those servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. So the wedding hall was filled with guests.

11. “But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there was a man who had no wedding garment.

12. “And he said to him: ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.

13. “Then the king said to the attendants: ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14. “‘For many are called, but few are chosen.’”

15. Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle Him in His words.

16. And they sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodions, saying: ‘Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the Way of God truthfully, and You do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances.

17. ‘Tell us then what You think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?’

(Matthéüs 22:1-9)

“KOM NA DIE BRUILOFS-FEES;”

1. Jesus het vir hulle ook nog ander gelykenisse vertel, om God se Konings-heerskappy uit te beeld. So het Hy byvoorbeeld gesê:

2. “God se Konings-heerskappy is soos ‘n koning wat ‘n bruilofsfees vir sy seun voorberei het.

3. “Toe die fees gereed was, het hy sy slawe uitgestuur om die gaste te laat weet, dat dit tyd was om te kom, maar hulle wou nie kom nie.

4. “Daarop het hy weer ander slawe gestuur met die opdrag: ‘Sê vir die gaste: ‘My feesmaal staan gereed. My beeste en vetgemaakte vee is klaar geslag. Alles is reg om te begin. Kom na die bruilof!’

5. “Die genooides het egter net hulle skouers opgetrek en elders heengegaan. Die een na sy boerdery, en die ander een na sy besigheid.

6. “Die res het die slawe gegryp en mishandel en selfs doodgemaak.

7. “Daarop het die koning woedend geword. Hy het sy weermag gestuur en daardie moordenaars doodgemaak en hulle stad afgebrand.

8. “Hy sê toe vir die slawe: ‘Die bruilof is gereed, maar die gaste wat ek genooi het, is hierdie eer onwaardig.

9. “‘Gaan staan nou op die straathoeke, en nooi almal wat julle raakloop, om die bruilof by te woon.’”

“COME TO THE WEDDING FEAST:”

1. And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying:

2. “The Kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son,

3. “and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come.

4. “Again he sent other servants, saying: ‘Tell those who are invited: ‘See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.’

5. “But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business,

6. “while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.

7. “The king was angry, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

8. “Then he said to his servants: ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those who were invited, were not worthy.

9. “‘Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast, as many as you find.’”

(Matthéüs 21:36-46)

“GOD SE KONINKRYK SAL VAN JULLE WEGGENEEM WORD:”

36. “Vervolgens het die eienaar nog ‘n groter groter groep slawe gestuur, en die boere het dieselfde met hulle gedoen.

37. “Einde ten laaste het hy sy seun na hulle toe gestuur, want hy het gedink: ‘Hulle sal my seun tog sekerlik ontsien.’

38. “Maar toe die boere die seun sien, sê hulle vir mekaar: ‘Hy is mos die erfgenaam. Kom ons maak hom dood, en dan vat ons sy erfenis.’

39. “Toe gryp hulle hom, smyt hom uit die wingerd, en vermoor hom.

40. “Wat dink julle,” het Jesus gevra, “sal die eienaar van die wingerd met hierdie boere doen wanneer hy terugkom?”

41. Hulle antwoord Hom daarop: ‘Hy sal daardie skurke ‘n verskriklike dood laat sterf, en die wingerd aan ander mense verhuur, wat gereeld sy billike deel van die oes aan hom sal gee.’

42. Jesus sê toe vir hulle: “Julle het tog seker al in die Skrif die volgende gelees: ‘Juis daardie Klip wat die bouers afgekeur het, het die Hoekklip van die gebou geword. Dit is die Here wat dit gedoen het, en dit is vir ons wonderlik!

43. “Daarom verseker Ek julle: God se Koninkryk sal van julle af weggeneem word, en aan ‘n volk gegee word, wie se lewe by Koninkryks-mense pas.

44. “Elkeen wat teen hierdie klip val, sal verpletter word, en die een op wie HY val, sal vergruis word.”

45. Toe die priesterhoofde en die skrifkenners hierdie gelykenisse hoor, het hulle besef dat Jesus op hulle sinspeel.

46. Daarom wou hulle Hom arresteer, maar hulle was bang om dit te doen, omdat die skare geglo het, dat Hy ‘n Profeet was.

“THE KINGDOM OF GOD WILL BE TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU:”

36. “Then he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did the same to them.

37. “Finally he sent his son to them, saying: ‘They will respect my son.’

38. “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves: ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and have his inheritance.’

39. “And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.

40. “When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”

41. They said to Him: ‘He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him the fruits in their season.’

42. Then Jesus said to them: “Have you never read in țhe Scriptures: ‘The Stone rejected, Has become the Cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it was marvelous in our eyes?’

43. “Therefore I tell you: The Kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and given to a people producing its fruits.

44. “And the one who falls on this Stone, will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”

45. When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they perceived that He was speaking about them

46. And although they were seeking to arrest Him, they feared the crowds, because they held Him to be a Prophet.
