A DISSENTION AROSE BETWEEN THE PHARISEES AND THE SADDUCEES:

30. Die offisier oor duisend man (die kommandant) het die volgende dag Paulus se boeie laat afhaal, en die priester hoofde en die hele Joodse Raad vir ‘n vergadering opgeroep. Hy het Paulus laat inbring, want hy wou agterkom presies waarvoor hy deur die Jode aangekla is.
(Handelinge 23:1-9)
DAAR HET TWIS ONTSTAAN TUSSEN DIE FARISEËRS EN DIE SADDUSEËRS:
1. Paulus het die Joodse Raad reguit in die oë gekyk en begin praat: “Broeders, ek het met ‘n volkome goeie gewete voor God gewandel, tot op hierdie dag.”
2. Maar die hoëpriester Ananias het bevel gegee dat die wat naby Paulus staan, hom op die mond moet slaan.
3. Toe sê Paulus vir hom: “God sal u slaan, skynheilige, gewitte muur! U sit tog om my volgens die Wet te oordeel, en beveel u in stryd met die Wet, dat ek geslaan moet word?”
4. En die wat naby Paulus staan, sê vir hom: ‘Skel jy die hoëpriester van God uit?’
5. Daarop sê Paulus: “Ek het nie geweet broers, dat hy die hoëpriester is nie, want daar staan geskrywe: ‘n Owerste van jou volk, mag jy nie beledig nie.”
6. En omdat Paulus geweet het dat die een deel uit Sadduseërs en die ander uit Fariseërs bestaan, het hy in die Raad uitgeroep! “Broers, ek is ‘n Fariseër, en die seun van ‘n Fariseër. Oor die hoop en die opstanding van die dode, staan ek voor die gereg.”
7. En toe hy dit sê, het daar twis ontstaan tussen die Fariseërs en die Sadduseërs, en hulle het verdeeld geraak, en rusie gemaak.
8. Want die Sadduseërs sê dat daar geen opstanding is nie, ook geen engele of geeste bestaan nie, maar die Fariseërs bely en glo al hierdie dinge.
9. ‘n Hewige woordewisseling het toe ontstaan. ‘n Paar van die skrifkenners van die party van die Fariseërs het opgestaan en heftig beswaar gemaak en gesê: ‘Ons vind geen kwaad in hierdie man nie; en as ‘n gees met hom gepraat het, of ‘n engel, laat ons nie teen God stry nie!’

30. But on the next day, desiring to know the real reason why Paul was being accused by the Jews, the commandant unbound him and commanded the chief priests and all the council to meet, and he brought Paul down and set him before them.
(Acts 23:1-9)
A DISSENSION AROSE BETWEEN THE PHARISEES AND THE SADDUCEES:
1. And looking intently at the council, Paul said: “Brothers, I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day.”
2. And the high priest Ananias commanded those who stood by Paul, to strike him on the mouth.
3. Then Paul said to him: “God is going to strike you, you white-washed wall! Are you sitting to judge me according to the Law, and yet contrary to the Law, you order me to be struck?”
4. Those who stood by said: ‘Would you revile God’s high priest?’
5. And Paul said: “I did not know brothers, that he was the high priest, for it is written: You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.”
6. When Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council: “Brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. It is with respect to the hope and the resurrection of the dead, that I am on trial.”
7. And when he had said this, a dissension arose between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided.
8. For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.
9. Then a great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees’ party stood up and contended sharply: ‘We find nothing wrong in this man. What if a spirit or an angel spoke to him? Let us not fight against God!’

“SO IEMAND BEHOORT NIE TE BLY LEWE NIE:”
20. “En toe U getuie Stefanus vermoor is, het ek self hulle ondersteun. Ek het sy moordenaars se klere opgepas!
21. “Toe sê die Here vir my: ‘+Gaan! Ek wil jou ver wegstuur, na die nie-Joodse nasies toe.’+
22. Die skare het na hom geluister tot op hierdie punt, en toe het hulle asof uit een mond begin skreeu: ‘Weg van die aarde af met so ‘n vent! Só iemand behoort verseker nie te bly lewe nie!’
23. Hulle het aanhou skreeu, hulle bo-klere uitgepluk, en stof in die lug opgegooi.
24. Die offisier oor duisend man het Paulus toe die kaserne laat inbring, en bevel gegee dat hy gegésel moes word, om hom sy misdaad te laat bely. Die offisier wou agterkom hoekom die skare Paulus so uitgejou het.
25. Hulle het hom klaar met rieme vasgebind gehad vir die géseling, toe Paulus vir die offisier oor honderd man wat daar naby staan vra: “Is dit wettig dat julle ‘n Romeinse burger gésel, en boonop nog sonder verhoor?”
26. Die offisier oor honderd man gaan toe na die kommandant (die offisier oor duisend man) en vra: ‘Wat is u van plan om te doen? U moet besef hierdie man is ‘n Romeinse burger.’
27. Die offisier oor duisend man gaan vra toe vir Paulus: ‘Sê vir my, is jy ‘n Romeinse burger?’ “Ja,” het Paulus geantwoord.
28. ‘Ek is ook een,’ het die offisier oor duisend man gesê, ‘en hierdie burgerreg het my baie geld gekos.’ “Maar ek is as ‘n burger gebore!” Het Paulus gesê.
29. Die soldate wat hom moes gésel, om hom te laat praat, het hom dadelik laat staan, en selfs kommandant (die offisier oor duisend) het bang geword toe hy besef dat Paulus ‘n Romeinse burger is, en dat hy hom vir géseling laat vasbind het.

(Acts 22:20-29)
“HE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO LIVE:”
20. “And when the blood of Stephen, Your witness was being shed, I myself was standing by and approving and watching over the garments of those who killed him.
21. “And He said to me: ‘+Go, for I Will send you far away to the Gentiles. ‘+
22. Up to this word they listened to him. Then they raised their voices and said: ‘Away with such a fellow from the earth! For he should not be allowed to live!’
23. And as they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and flinging dust into the air,
24. the Commandant (tribune), ordered him to be brought into the barracks, saying that he should be examined by flogging, to find out why they were shouting against him like this.
25. But when they had stretched him out for the whips, Paul said to the centurion who was standing by: “Is it lawfull for you to flog a man who is a Roman citizen and uncondemned?”
26. When the centurion heard this, he went to the tribune and said to him: ‘What are you about to do? For this man is a Roman citizen.’
27. So the commandant came and said to Paul: ‘Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?’ And he said: “Yes.”
28. The commandant answered: ‘I bought this citizenship for a large sum.’ Paul said: “But I am a Citizen by birth.”
29. So those who were about to examine him, withdrew from him immediately, and the commandant also was afraid, for he realized that Paul was a Roman citizen, and that he had bound him for flogging.

“EK HET ‘N GEESTELIKE ERVARING GEHAD:”
12. ‘n Man met die naam Ananias het daar gebly. Hy het nougeset volgens die Joodse Wet gelewe, en by al die Jode dáár ‘n goeie naam gehad.
13. “Hy het na my toe gekom, by my kom staan en vir my gesê: ‘Saul, broer, sien weer!’ En oombliklik is my sig herstel, en het ek hom gesien!”
14. “Toe sê hy: ‘Die God van ons voorvaders het jou uitgekies om Sy Wil te ken, en om die Regverdige te sien, en Hom te hoor praat.
15. “‘Jy sal inderdaad vir alle mense Sy getuie wees, van wat jy gesien en gehoor het.
16. “‘En nou, waarom nog wag? Staan op, laat jou doop en jou sondes afwas. Jy het mos Sy Naam aangeroep.’
17. “Ek is terug Jerusalem toe, en terwyl ek by die tempel besig was om te bid, het ek ‘n buitengewone geestelike ervaring gehad.
18. “Ek het die Here gesien en Hy het vir my gesê: ‘+Maak gou! Gee dadelik pad uit Jerusalem. Hierdie mense sal verseker nie jou getuienis oor My aanvaar nie.’+
19. “Toe het ek teëgestribel: Maar Here, hulle weet dat ek die man is wat oral in die sinagoges die mense wat in U glo, gearresteer en laat slaan het.”

“I FELL INTO A TRANCE:”
12. “And one, Ananias, a devout man, wel spoken of by the Jews who lived there,
13. “came to me and standing by me, said to me: ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight.’ And at that very hour I received my sight and I saw him.
14. “And he said: ‘The God of our fathers appointed you to know His Will, to see the Righteous One, and to hear a voice from His mouth;
15. ‘for you will be a witness for Him to everyone of what you have seen and heard.
16. ‘And now, why do you wait? Rise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His Name.’
17. “When I had returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, I fell into a trance,
18. “and saw Him saying to me: ‘+Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony, about Me.’+
19. “And I said: Lord, they themselves know that in one synagogue after another, I imprisoned and beat those who believed in You.”
