(Lukas 1:76-80) 

‘N PROFEET VAN DIE ALLERHOOGSTE SAL JY GENOEM WORD:

  1. “En jy kindjie, ‘n Profeet van die Allerhoogste sal jy genoem word, want jy sal voor die Here uitgaan, om Sy pad gereed te maak. 
  2. “Om kennis van verlossing aan Sy volk mee te deel: Verlossing deur vergifnis van hulle sondes, 
  3. “danksy die genadige ontferming van ons God. Soos die môreson sal Hy opgaan, en uit die hoogte op ons afstraal. 
  4. “Om lig te bring aan dié wat in duisternis, en in die skaduwee van die dood lewe, om ons voetstappe te rig op die pad van vrede.”
  5. Die kindjie, Johannes,het opgegroei en sterk geword deur die Gees, en in die woestyn gebly tot op die dag van sy openbare verskyning in Israel.

YOU WILL BE CALLED THE PROPHET OF THE MOST HIGH:

  1. “And you child, will be called the Prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord, to prepare His ways. 
  2. “To give knowledge of Salvation to His people in the forgiveness of their sins,
  3. because of the tender mercy of our GOD, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from  on high. 
  4. “to give light to you who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
  5. And the child John, grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day of his public appearance of Israel.

“JOHANNES IS SY NAAM:”

  1. Toe die tyd gekom het dat Elisabet se kind gebore moes word, het sy ‘n seun in die wêreld gebring. 
  2. Haar bure en familie het gehoor dat die Here aan haar groot ontferming bewys het, en hulle was saam met haar bly. 
  3. Op die agste dag het hulle gekom om die kindjie te besny, en hulle wou him Sagaria noem, na sy pa. 
  4. Maar sy ma het dadelik gesê: “Nee, hy moet Johannes genoem word.”
  5. Hulle sê toe vir haar: ‘Daar is niemand in jou familie wat die naam het nie!’
  6. Met gebare vra hulle toe vir sy pa, hoe hy wil hê dat die kindjie genoem moet word. 
  7. Hy vra toe vir ‘n skryf-bordjie, en skryf daarop: “Johannes is sy naam.” En almal was verbaas. 
  8. Onmiddellik het Sagaria sy  spraak teruggekry, en begin praat en God geprys.

“HE SHALL BE CALLED JOHN:”

  1. The time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son. 
  2. And her neighbors and relatives, heard that the Lord Had shown great mercy to her. And they rejoiced with her. 
  3. And on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child. And they would have called him Zechariah after his father, 
  4. but his mother answered: “No, he shall be called, John.”
  5. And they said to her: ‘None of your relatives is called by this name!’
  6. And they made signs to his father, inquiring what he wanted him to be called. 
  7. And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote:  “His name is John.” And they all wondered. 
  8. And immediately his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God.

(Lukas 1:65-75)

“‘N STERK VERLOSSER HET HY VIR ONS LAAT OPSTAAN:”

  1. Almal wat rondom hulle gewoon het, is met ontsag vervul, en in die hele bergreeks van Judea is daar baie gepraat oor al hierdie dinge. 
  2. Almal wat dit gehoor het, het daaroor nagedink en gevra: ‘Wat sal hierdie kindjie eendag word?’ Dit was duidelik dat die Here by hom was. 
  3. Sagaria, die kindjie se pa, is met die Heilige Gees vervul, en het as Profeet gesê: 
  4. “Lofwaardig is die Here, die God van Israel, want Hy het Sy volk in genade opgesoek, en vir hulle verlossing bewerk. 
  5. “‘n Sterk Verlosser het Hy vir ons laat opstaan, uit die huis van Sy dienaar Dawid. 
  6. “So het die Here dit reeds van oudsher belowe deur die mond van Sy Heilige Profete;
  7. “om ons te verlos van ons vyande, en uit die hand van al ons haters;
  8. “om Hom te ontferm oor ons voorvaders, en Sy heilige verbond te onthou. 
  9. “Met ‘n eed het Hy dit bevestig, aan ons voorvader Abraham, dat Hy sou gee dat ons,
  10. “gered uit die hand van vyande, Hom onbevrees kan dien,
  11. “in vroomheid en opregtheid, al die dae van ons lewe.”

“HE RAISED UP A HORN OF SALVATION FOR US:”

  1. And fear came on all their neighbors. And all these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea, 
  2. and all who heard them, laid them up in their hearts, saying: ‘What then will this child be?’ For the hand of the Lord was with him. 
  3. And his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying: 
  4. “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He Has visited and Redeemed His people,
  5. “and Has raised up a horn of salvation for us, in the house of His servant David. 
  6. “As He spoke by the mouth of His holy Prophets from of old, 
  7. “that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand if all who hate us; 
  8. “to show the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember His Holy covenant, 
  9. “the oath that He swore to our fathers and Abraham, to grant us that
  10. “we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear,
  11. “in holiness and righteousness before Him, all our days.”

DIE BEHOEFTIGES HET HY OORLAAI MET GOEIE GAWES: 

  1. “Kragtige dade het Hy met Sy arm verrig; hoogmoediges in hulle eiewaan het Hy uitmekaar gejaag;
  2. “maghebbers het Hy van trone afgeruk, en geringes verhoog; 
  3. “behoeftiges het HY oorlaai met goeie gawes, en rykes met leë hande weggestuur. 
  4. “Sy dienaar Israel het Hy te hulp gekom, deur te dink aan Sy beloftes van ontferming,
  5. “soos Hy dit toegesê het aan ons voorvaders, aan Abraham en sy nageslag, tot in ewigheid.”
  6. Maria het ongeveer drie maande by Elisabet gebly, en daarna teruggegaan na haar huis toe.

HE HAS FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS:

  1. “He Has shown strength with His arm, He Has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
  2. “He Has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of humble estate; 
  3. “He Has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He sent away empty. 
  4. “He Has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, 
  5. “as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his offspring forever.”
  6. And Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months, and then returned to her home. 

“MY SPIRIT REJOICES IN GOD, MY SAVIOUR:”

“EK JUIG OOR GOD, MY VERLOSSER:”

  1. “En daarop het Maria vir Elisabet geantwoord: “Ek besing die Grootheid van die Here, 
  2. “Ek juig oor God, my Verlosser, 
  3. “omdat Hy na my in my geringheid omgesien het. Kyk, van nou af sal elke nuwe geslag my gelukkig noem, 
  4. “omdat Hy wat Magtig is, groot dinge aan my gedoen het. Heilig is Sy Naam!
  5. “Hy bewys ontferming van geslag tot geslag. aan dié wat Hom eer.”

“MY SPIRIT REJOICES IN GOD, MY SAVIOUR:”

  1. And Mary answered Elizabeth: “My soul magnifies the Lord,
  2. “and my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour, 
  3. “for He Has looked upon the humble estate of His servant. For Behold, from now on, all generations will call me blessed; 
  4. “For He Who is Mighty, Has done great things for me, and Holy is His Name. 
  5. “And His Mercy is for those who fear Him, from generation to generation.”
