“I DO NOT SEEK TO ESCAPE DEATH:”

Donderdag 6 en Vrydag 7 November 2025.

PÊREL VIR ELKE DAG:

(Handelinge 25:6-19)

“EK PROBEER DIE DOOD NIE ONTDUIK NIE:”

  3. Paulus het homself verdedig. “Ek het niks teen die Joodse wet of die tempel of teen die Keiser oortree nie.”

Thursday 6 and Friday 7 November 2025.

PEARL FOR EACH DAY:

(Acts 25:6-19)

“I DO NOT SEEK TO ESCAPE DEATH:”

  1. After Festus stayed  among them not more than eight to ten days, he went to Caesarea. And the next day he took his seat on the tribunal and ordered Paul to be brought.
  2. When he had arrived, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem, stood around him bringing many and serious charges against him, that they could not prove.
  3. Paul argued in his defense: “Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar, have I committed any offense.”
  4. But Festus, wishing to do theJews a favour, said to Paul: ‘Do you wish to go up to Jerusalem and there be tried on these charges before me?’
  5. But Paul said: “I am standing before Caesar’s tribunal, where I ought to be tried. To the Jews I have done no wrong, as you yourself know very well.
  6. “If then I am a wrongdoer, and have committed anything for which I deserve to die, I do not seek to escape death. But if there is nothing to their charges against me, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar!”
  7. Then Festus, when he had conferred with his council, answered: ‘To Caesar you have appealed, to Caesar you shall go.’
  8. When some days had passed, Agrippa the king and Bernice, arrived at Caesarea and greeted Festus.
  9. And as they stayed there many days, Festus laid Paul’s case before the king , saying: “There is a man, left prisoner by Felix,
  10. “and when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews, laid out their case against him, asking for a sentence of condemnation against him.
  11. “I answered them that it was not the custom of the Romans to give up anyone, before the accuser met the accusers face to face. And also had opportunity to make his defense concerning the charge laid against him.
  12. “So when they came together here, I made no delay and on the next day took my seat on the tribunal, and ordered the man to be brought.
  13. “When the accusers stood up,  they brought no charge in his case of such evils as I supposed.
  14. “Rather they had some points of dispute with him about their own religion. And a certain Jesus, Who was dead, but Whom Paul asserted to be alive.”

FELIX HOPED THAT MONEY BE GIVEN HIM BY PAUL:

Dinsdag 4 en Woensdag 5 November 2025.

PÊREL VIR ELKE DAG:

(Handelinge 24:22-27)

FELIX HET GEHOOP DAT PAULUS HOM SOU PROBEER OMKOOP:

PEARL FOR EACH DAY:

(Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 November 2025.

(Acts 24:22-27)

FELIX HOPED THAT MONEY WOULD BE GIVEN HIM BY PAUL:

  1. Felix, having a rather accurate knowledge of “The Way,” put them off, saying; “When Lysias, the tribune comes down, I will decide your case.”
  2. Then he gave orders to the Centurion, that Paul should be kept in custody but have some liberty, and that none of his friends should be prevented from attending to his needs.
  3. After some days Felix came with his wife Drusilla who was Jewish, and he sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus.
  4. And as Paul reasoned about righteousness and self-control and the coming judgement, Felix was alarmed and said: “Go away for the present. When I get an opportunity, I will summon you.”
  5. At the same time he hoped money would be given him by Paul. So he sent for him often, and conversed with him.
  6. When two years had elapsed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. And desiring to do the Jews a favour, Felix left Paul in prison.

(Acts 25:1-5)

  1. Three days after Festus had arrived in the province, he went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea.
  2. The chief priests and the principal men of the Jews laid out their case against Paul and they urged  him,
  3. asking as a favour against Paul, that he summon him to Jerusalem, because they were planning an ambush to kill him on the way.
  4. Festus replied that Paul was being kept at Caesarea and that he himself intended to go there shortly.
  5. “So,” he said, “let the men of authority among you go down with me, and if there is anything wrong about the man, let he bring charges against him.”

THERE WILL BE A RESURRECTION OF BOTH THE JUST AND THE UNJUST:

Maandag 3 November 2025.

PÊREL VIR ELKE DAG:

(Handelinge 24:10-21)

“GOD GAAN DIE OPSTANDING VAN DIE GOEIES EN DIE SLEGTES LAAT PLAASVIND:”

Daarom stel ek my verweer met hoë verwagting.
  2. “U kan self agterkom dat ek nie meer as twaalf dae gelede in Jerusalem aangekom het om by die tempel te aanbid nie.
  3. “Verder het niemand my in die tempel gekry dat ek met iemand stry, of dat ek in die sinagoges of in die stad betogings organiseer nie.
As hulle iets teen my sou hê.

Monday 3 November 2025.

PEARL FOR EACH DAY:

(Acts 24:10-21)

THERE WILL BE A RESURRECTION OF BOTH THE JUST AND THE UNJUST:

  1. And when the governor had nodded to him to speak, Paul replied: “Knowing that for many years you have been a judge over this nation, I cheerfully make my defense.
  2. “You can verify that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship in Jerusalem.
  3. “And they did not find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the temple, or in the synagogues or in the city.
  4. “Neither can they prove to you what they now bring up against me.
  5. “But I confess to you, that according to the “Way” which they call a sect, I worship the God of our fathers, believing everything laid down by the Law and written in the  Prophets,
  6. “having a hope in God, which these men themselves accept, that there will be a resurrection of both the just and unjust.
  7. “So I always take pains to have a clear conscience toward both God and man.
  8. “Now, after several years,  I came to bring alms to my nation, and to present offerings,
  9. “While I was doing this, they found me purified in the temple, without any crowd or tumult. But some Jews from Asia-
  10. “they ought to be here before you and to make an accusation, should they have anything against me.
  11. “Or else these men themselves say what wrongdoing they found when I stood before the council,
  12. “other than this one thing that I cried out while standing among them: “It is with respect to the resurrection of the dead, that I am on trial before you this day.”

Many thanks to Maryann Price for this lovely prayer, that I am able to use.

THE JEWS ALSO JOINED IN THE CHARGE:

Saterdag 1 en Sondag 2 November 2025.

PÊREL VIR ELKE DAG:

(Handelinge 23:31-35)

DIE JODE HET BEVESTIG DAT DIT SO IS:

Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 November 2025.

PEARL FOR EACH DAY:

(Acts 23:31-35)

THE JEWS ALSO JOINED IN THE CHARGE:

  1. So the soldiers according to their instructions, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris.
  2. And on the next day they returned to the barracks, letting the horsemen go on with him.
  3. When they had come to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they presented Paul also before him.
  4. On reading the letter, he asked what province he was from. And when he learned that he was from Cilicia,
  5. he said: ‘I will give you a hearing when your accusers arrive.’ And he commanded Paul to be guarded in Herod’s  praetorium.

(Acts 24:1-9)

  1. After five days the high priest Ananias came down with some elders and a spokesman, an advocate, named Tertulles. They laid before the governor their case against Paul.
  2. And when Paul had been summoned, Tertullus began to accuse Paul saying: ‘Since through you we enjoy peace, and since by your foresight, most excellent Felix, reforms are being made for our nation,
  3. ‘in every way, and everywhere, we accept this with all gratitude.
  4. ‘But to detain you no further, I beg you in your kindness to hear us briefly.
  5. ‘For we have found this man to be a plague, one who stirs up riots among all the Jews throughout the world and is a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.
  6. ‘He even tried to profane the temple,
  7. ‘but we seized him,
  8. ‘By examining him yourself you will be able to find out from him about everything of which we accuse him.’
  9. The Jews also joined in the charge, affirming that all these things were so.

  2. “Also provide beasts for mounts for Paul to ride, and bring him in safety to Felix the governor.
  3. And he wrote a letter having this message:
  4. “Claudius Lysias sends greetings to his excellency Felix the governor.
  5. “This man was seized as prisoner by the Jews, and he was about to be killed by them when I came upon them with the troops and rescued him, because I learned that he is a Roman citizen.
  6. “And wishing to know the exact accusation which they were making against him, I brought him down before their council.
  7. “Where I found that he was charged in regard to questions of their own Law, but he was accused of nothing that would call for death or even for imprisonment.
  8. “However, when it was pointed out to me that there would be a conspiracy against the man, I sent him to you immediately, directing his accusers also to present before you their charge against him.”
  9. So the soldiers, in compliance with their instructions, took Paul and conducted him during the night to Antipatris.

Dinsdag 28 en Woensdag 29 Oktober 2025.

PÊREL VIR ELKE DAG:

(Handelinge 23:12-22)

“ONS IS REG OM HOM UIT DIE WEG TE RUIM:”

  2. Meer as veertig manne het só saamgesweer.
  6. Paulus roep toe een van die offisiere oor honderd man en sê vir hom: “Neem hierdie jong man na die offisier oor duisend man toe, en sê: ‘Paulus die gevangene het my geroep en my gevra om hierdie jong man na u toe te bring, omdat hy iets het om aan u te rapporteer.’
  8. Die offisier vat hom toe aan die hand, gaan met hom eenkant toe, en vra vir hom: “Wat is dit wat jy like aan my wil rapporteer?”

Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 October 2025.

PEARL FOR EACH DAY:

(Acts 23:12-22)

“WE ARE READY TO KILL HIM WHEN HE COMES NEAR:”

  1. When it was day, the Jews made a plot and bound themselves by oath neither to eat nor drink till they have  killed Paul.
  2. There were more than forty who made this conspiracy.
  3. They went to the chief priests and elders and said: ‘We have strictly bound ourselves by an oath to taste no food till we have killed Paul.
  4. ‘Now therefore you, along with the Council, give notice to the tribune to bring Paul down to you, as though you were going to determine his case more exactly. And we are ready to kill him before he comes near.’
  5. The son of Paul’s sister heard of their ambush, so he went and entered the barracks and told Paul.
  6. Paul called one of the Centurions, and said: “Take this young man to the tribune, for he has something to tell him.”
  7. So he took him and brought him to the tribune and said: ‘Paul the prisoner called me and asked me to bring this young man to you, as he has something to say to you.’
  8. The tribune took him by the hand, and going aside, asked him privately: “What is it that you have to tell me?”
  9. And the boy said: ‘The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the Council tomorrow, as though they were going to inquire somewhat more closely about him.
  10. ‘But do not be persuaded by them. For more than forty of their men are lying in ambush  for him, who have bound themselves by an oath, not to eat or drink till they have killed him! And now they are ready, waiting for your consent.’
  11. So the tribune dismissed the young man, charging him: “Tell no one that you have informed me of these things.”

“WE FIND NOTHING WRONG IN THIS MAN:”

Maandag 27 Oktober 2025.

PÊREL VIR ELKE DAG:

(Handelinge 22:30)

“ONS VIND NIKS SLEGS IN HIERDIE MAN NIE:”

  4. Die mense by Paulus sê toe vir hom: ‘Dis die hoofpriester van God wat jy so uitskel!’
  11. Daardie nag het die Here by Paulus gestaan en vir hom gesê: ‘+Hou moed! Net soos jy hier in Jerusalem oor My getuig het, netso moet jy ook in Rome doen.’+

PEARL FOR EACH DAY:

(Acts 22:30)

“WE FIND NOTHING WRONG IN THIS MAN:”

  1. On the next day, desiring to know the real reason why Paul was being accused by the Jews, the tribune unbound him, and commanded the chief priests and all the council to meet, he brought Paul down, and set him before them.

(Acts 23:1-11)

  1. And looking intently at the council, Paul said: “Brothers, I have lived my life before God in all good conscience, up to this day.”
  2. The high priest Ananias commanded those who stood by him, to strike him on the mouth.
  3. Then Paul said to him: “God is going to strike you, you whitewashed wall! You are sitting to judge me according to the Law, and yet, contrary to the Law you order me to be struck!”
  4. Those who stood by him, said: ‘Would you revile God’s high priest?’
  5. And Paul said: “I did not know brothers, that he was the high priest. For it is written: You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.”
  6. When Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the others Pharisees, he cried out in the council: “I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. It is with respect to the hope and the resurrection of the dead, that I am on trial.”
  7. And when he had said this, a dissension arose between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided.
  8. For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor Angels nor Spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.
  9. Then a great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees party stood up and contended sharply: ‘We find nothing wrong in this man! What if a Spirit or an Angel spoke to him?’
  10. And when the dissension became violent, the tribune, afraid that Paul would be torn to pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him away from among them by force, and bring him into the barracks.
  11. The following night the Lord stood by him and said: ‘+Take courage, for as you have testified to the facts about Me, in Jerusalem, so you must testify also in Rome.’+

“THIS MAN IS A ROMAN CITIZEN:”

Saterdag 25 en Sondag 26 Oktober 2025.

PÊREL VIR ELKE DAG:

(Handelinge 22:22-29)

“HIERDIE MAN IS ‘N ROMEINSE BURGER:”

  5. Die offisier oor honderd man gaan toe na die offisier oor duisend man en vra: ‘Wat is u van plan om te doen? U moet besef hierdie man is ‘n Romeinse burger!’
  6. Die offisier oor duisend man gaan vra toe vir Paulus: ‘Sê vir my, is jy ‘n Romeinse burger?’ “Ja,” het Paulus geantwoord.
“Maar ék is as ‘n burger gebore!” Het Paulus geantwoord.

PEARL FOR EACH DAY:

Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 October 2025.

Acts 22:22-29)

“THIS MAN IS A ROMAN CITIZEN:”

  1. Up to this word they listened to Paul, then they raised their voices and said: ‘Away with this fellow from the earth! He should not be allowed to live!’
  2. And as they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks, and flinging dust into the air,
  3. the tribune ordered Paul to be brought into the barracks, saying that he should be examined by flogging, to find out why they were shouting against him like this.
  4. But when they had stretched him out for the whips, Paul said to the Centurion who was standing by: “Is it lawful to flog a man who is a Roman citizen, and uncondemned?”
  5. When the Centurion heard this, he went to the trubune and said to him: ‘What are you about to do? For this man is a Roman citizen!’
  6. So the tribune came and said to Paul: ‘Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?’ And Paul replied: “Yes,”
  7. The tribune answered: ‘I bought this citizenship for a large sum.’ Paul said: “But I am a citizen by birth.”
  8. So those who were about to examine him, withdrew from him immediately. The tribune also was afraid, for he realized that Paul was a Roman citizen, and he had bound him.

  4. Hy het na my toe gekom en by my kom staan en vir my gesê: ‘Saul, broer sien weer!’
