“HE SHALL BE CALLED JOHN:”

(Lukas 1:57-64)

“JOHANNES IS SY NAAM:”

1. Toe die tyd gekom het dat Elisabet se kind gebore moes word, het sy ‘n seun in die wêreld gebring. 
2. Haar bure en familie het gehoor dat die Here aan haar groot ontferming bewys het, en hulle was saam met haar bly. 
3. Op die agste dag het hulle gekom om die kindjie te besny, en hulle wou him Sagaria noem, na sy pa. 
4. Maar sy ma het dadelik gesê: “Nee, hy moet Johannes genoem word.”
5. Hulle sê toe vir haar: ‘Daar is niemand in jou familie wat die naam het nie!’
6. Met gebare vra hulle toe vir sy pa, hoe hy wil hê dat die kindjie genoem moet word. 
7. Hy vra toe vir ‘n skryf-bordjie, en skryf daarop: “Johannes is sy naam.” En almal was verbaas. 
8. Onmiddellik het Sagaria sy  spraak teruggekry, en begin praat en God geprys.

“HE SHALL BE CALLED JOHN:”

1. The time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son. 
2. And her neighbors and relatives, heard that the Lord Had shown great mercy to her. And they rejoiced with her. 
3. And on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child. And they would have called him Zechariah after his father, 
4. but his mother answered: “No, he shall be called, John.”
5. And they said to her: ‘None of your relatives is called by this name!’
6. And they made signs to his father, inquiring what he wanted him to be called. 
7. And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote:  “His name is John.” And they all wondered. 
8. And immediately his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God.
